New Volunteer Co-ordinator

 

The library is pleased to welcome Cathy Brown, our new Volunteer Co-ordinator.  It has been a long wait for the right person to step forward – many thanks to Sally for continuing in the role in the meantime.  She has spent a few weeks introducing Cathy to the varied tasks required to keep the library running smoothly.  Cathy took over in mid-August and the appointment will be officially confirmed at our AGM.  We look forward to working with her.

Haddenham to Haddenham Walk

 

This walk, which took place at the beginning of July, has been an amazing fundraising event.  Stephen Thompson and Andrew Wilding both gave up a week's work to take on the personal challenge of walking 110 miles from Haddenham, Cambs, to Haddenham, Bucks. Library trustees Chris and Robin, together with Peter (Holly Fairchild's dad) joined the walk for the final 12-mile leg, dropping into Haddenham, Bucks, Library on the way. 

 

Over £7,000 has been donated so far, and each village will receive half of that amount. Our Library and Holly's Active Stars will each receive half of the amount raised for our Haddenham (a quarter of the total).

 

This sum, together with a very generous donation from Ely Data Quality Ltd, will help us begin to realise our library ambitions - achieving disabled access remains a priority.  Thank you to all involved.

Upcoming: Kate Rhodes Author Event

Kate Rhodes, the writer of many popular crime novels, will be joining us for a special evening on 15 October. Watch out for more details!

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. Next month's read ‘In a Blink of an Eye’ by Jo Callaghan will be discussed on Tuesday 18th November. All ages and genders are welcome, and anyone born after 1980 would be greatly appreciated for their new perspectives! As always, we can provide a copy of the book, so no need to buy one.
