World Book Day at Haddenham Library was Out of This World!

The library welcomed Earth, Saturn and Mercury classes from Robert Arkenstall School to share stories, books, craft activities and more on this special day in the book world calendar. The photos show a few of our space theme non-fiction books, some of our fiction currently on the display shelf and a few of the pictures the children coloured. These will be put on display in the library in due course.

Every child visitor went home with a free book of their choice. These books were from our book sale stock – donations not required for our shelves, usually because they are duplicates or titles not on our computer system.

Our volunteers were pleased to hear comments such as, “I’ve been wanting a copy of this for years”, and “This is much more fun than school – I wish we could come every day.”

It was good to hear how knowledgeable many of the children were about the solar system, and their ideas about alien life, but more of a surprise was meeting a child who had actually met an alien. By the end of the story session we were all 99% convinced it was true!

A further 21 people came in during the after school session. In all, there were 131 visitors on the day.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Our next book will be ‘Never Let Me Go’ (2005), a sci-fi novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. Please just get in touch in advance if you'd like to join us on 21 May.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk. We can even provide you with a copy of the book.
