Summer Reading Challenge Medal Ceremony

Friday 22 September was a very special day for the children who completed the Summer Reading Challenge, Ready, Set, Read! There were 29 in all, although 5 of them were unable to make it on the day.

It was great to see such a large turnout, with parents and other family members as well as the readers. Thank you to everyone for your support.

All the children were presented with well-earned medals and certificates. They also enjoyed some table-top games such as table football and skittles, did some colouring, and had drinks and biscuits (chocolate!).

Squirrels visit

September 28th was another special day for us, as we welcomed 2 dreys of Squirrels from Sutton to the library. These were not the grey furry creatures with bushy tails, but children from the youngest section of the Scouts, aged 4 – 5.

The children plus their leaders and helpers filled the library with chatter and activity, although they were really quiet whilst listening to some stories. The photos show some superhero cups they made, and they all had a chance to help create a superhero collage. Watch out for them on display in the library in the near future.

Many of them had not been to Haddenham Library before, although we signed up a couple of new members and hope to see them return with their parents.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Next month's read ‘In a Blink of an Eye’ by Jo Callaghan will be discussed on Tuesday 18th November. All ages and genders are welcome, and anyone born after 1980 would be greatly appreciated for their new perspectives! As always, we can provide a copy of the book, so no need to buy one.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
