Summer Reading Challenge 2025

The Summer Reading Challenge is a fun, free way for children aged 4–11 to stay motivated to read during the summer holidays.  Children need to read 6 books of their own choice, collecting stickers for their collector’s folder for each book read.

This year’s theme is Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors.  It is designed to encourage children to explore the magical connection between storytelling and the natural world.  We have plenty of books to help them with this - see below.

  • Sign up at Haddenham Library.   A collector’s folder will be earned once the first book has been read and reviewed with one of our child-friendly volunteers.

  • Select and read a library book each week of the holidays: 6 in total.

  • Collect a special sticker for each book read.

  • Children need a library card in their own name to take part.  Joining forms are available at the library.

  • Discover and enjoy the amazing books in your library. Take part in additional activities.

  • A certificate and medal will be awarded to every child who completes the challenge.

Children can sign up from Saturday 5 July.  Reviews will be available from Saturday 19 July during normal opening hours, except Friday evenings.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Next month's book, also set in the 1930s, is the polar opposite of Hemingway's: 'Cold Comfort Farm' by Stella Gibbons, allegedly (according to its blurb) "probably the funniest book ever written". We'll be meeting on 19th May to discuss it. As always, everyone is welcome, and we can supply the book in advance.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
