Summer Reading Challenge

The summer holidays are nearly here, and that means time for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge! This year the Reading Agency has teamed up with Create, the UK’s leading charity empowering lives, reducing isolation and enhancing wellbeing through the creative arts, to bring us Marvellous Makers.

Join the Marvellous Makers: Amelia, Charlie, Kai, Maya, Riley, Laila and Yasmin – as they prepare for a (fictional) festival. Each character uses their talents to prepare something special.

  • Sign up at Haddenham Library. Receive a collector’s poster and your first sticker when you start the challenge.
  • Select, read and review a library book each week of the holidays: 6 in total. Collect stickers for each book read.
  • A certificate and medal will be awarded to every child who completes the challenge.

Marvellous Makers is open to all primary school children. It is designed for all reading abilities and it is free to take part. The challenge encourages children to keep reading during the summer holidays, ensuring they are ready for a great start to the new autumn term.

Sign up from Saturday 13 July. Reviews available from Saturday 20 July during normal opening hours, except Friday evenings.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Next month's read ‘In a Blink of an Eye’ by Jo Callaghan will be discussed on Tuesday 18th November. All ages and genders are welcome, and anyone born after 1980 would be greatly appreciated for their new perspectives! As always, we can provide a copy of the book, so no need to buy one.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
