SQUIRRELS VISIT - 25th October 2025

On Saturday 25th, the library was inundated with squirrels, beavers and maybe some cubs. There were also various birds and maybe a tree or two too who (two too who? was that an owl?) came to keep all the little mammals in order.

Of course it was our annual visit from the younger end of some of our local scouting groups who were overnighting in tents next door in the AVC . Our library volunteers became Flamingo and Emu and we had a lively few hours of helping them with their crafts and reading them some stories. The children were wonderful listeners, joined in with gusto and Flamingo was so exhausted towards the end of the afternoon that some of the children read to her instead. Every child was given a 'Library Star' sticker for being excellent visitors.

We love giving local children a chance to visit our library and always hope to see a few returning with their grown ups in tow to join the library (if they are not already Cambs Libraries members) and borrow some books (we have lots of books for grown ups too).

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Next month's book, also set in the 1930s, is the polar opposite of Hemingway's: 'Cold Comfort Farm' by Stella Gibbons, allegedly (according to its blurb) "probably the funniest book ever written". We'll be meeting on 19th May to discuss it. As always, everyone is welcome, and we can supply the book in advance.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
