Latest News and Upcoming Events

On Friday 13th October we held our 20th Anniversary fund-raising Quiz. Despite torrential rain, we had a full house of almost 50 eager ‘quizzers’ at the Haddenham Cherry Tree. Chris Taylor was, once again, a brilliant MC and Quiz Master, keeping us entertained and on our toes with a mixture of challenging and fun questions. The bar staff were busy all evening and provided great service, while the 'Steak and Honour' food van proved popular, as always.

Every team was excellent, but there had to be some winners. The winning team fielded a balanced mix of ages, which proved to be an excellent strategy. They took home a first prize of £50. Second place was rewarded with a £30 Cherry Tree voucher, while third place received a £10 voucher.

The evening raised a fantastic total of £225.23, primarily from team entry fees, but also from the popular raffle organised by June Madge, and the 'Brass for Books' collection of small denomination coins which saw some people enthusiastically emptying overloaded pockets and purses!

A big thank you to: Chris, Hannah, and the Haddenham Cherry Tree team (and for their generous £30 voucher); all the enthusiastic and generous quizzers; June for the raffle; Toppings of Ely for the £20 book token for the raffle; and 'Steak and Honour' for providing great food.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Next month's read ‘In a Blink of an Eye’ by Jo Callaghan will be discussed on Tuesday 18th November. All ages and genders are welcome, and anyone born after 1980 would be greatly appreciated for their new perspectives! As always, we can provide a copy of the book, so no need to buy one.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
