Haddenham Book Treasure Hunt: Call for book display points!

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Haddenham Library repoening as a volunteer run library, we want to run a treasure hunt around the village, with a twist - the treasure being hunted is other people's favourite books! And we need YOUR help!

Why?

This year we are celebrating twenty years of being a volunteer-run community library. We rely on fundraising to keep the doors open, the lights on, and the shelves stocked. Would you like to be an important part of this fundraising event for Haddenham Library and enable us to buy more books?

Where?

Do you live along one of the 20mph roads in our village? This is important to help us plan a family-friendly book treasure hunt route.

What?

At this stage, we are asking if you would like to display one book of your choice in a pavement-facing window. Any book would be good: adult, children, fiction or non-fiction. Perhaps you would also like to create an eye-catching window display to show off your book choice, and get the children, grandchildren, your neighbours or your dog involved too?

How?

If you would like to be involved, please either text or phone on 07773 328337, email at robingildersleeve@hotmail.co.uk or drop a note into the library.

We need to know your name, address and contact number. These details will not be used for any other purpose. When we have received details from all who want to display a book in a window, we shall organise a family-friendly walking route for book treasure hunters.

A week or so before the treasure hunt weekend, some of you will receive one letter ('a' to 'z') to also display in your window. When all these individual letters have been discovered by the treasure hunters they will provide an anagram to solve. Those who solve the anagram correctly will go into a prize draw.

When?

The Book Treasure Hunt takes place over the weekend of 8, 9 and 10 September.

Treasure Hunt route maps will be on sale a week or more before the event – at the Library, Arts Centre, Cherry Tree and SPAR shop.

You can start preparing your window now, but don't forget to contact us asap if you want to display a book in your window.

Many thanks to all who take part - book displayers and/or treasure hunters.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Next month's read ‘In a Blink of an Eye’ by Jo Callaghan will be discussed on Tuesday 18th November. All ages and genders are welcome, and anyone born after 1980 would be greatly appreciated for their new perspectives! As always, we can provide a copy of the book, so no need to buy one.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
