Haddenham Beavers Visit Report

Thursday 13th March

The library hosted a visit by a colony of lively Beavers – the Scouting sort, not the animals!  They enthusiastically joined in with activities for their Book Lover badges.  The ‘design a book cover’ activity raised lots of questions about the authors of certain books, and sent volunteers hurrying to the shelves to find the ones they were interested in.   It was entertaining to hear the comments about their preferred reading.  Some great designing resulted, with good illustrations, a title and author, and some of them added a blurb on the reverse.

Other activities included making a book mark, some dragon colouring and puzzles, plus a 3D dragon model to make.

Later they had a chance to discuss the care of books, and have a story, When the Dragons Came, with plenty of actions.  The last few minutes were spent browsing the shelves – great excitement when they discovered the Minecraft books, plus Lego and film related non-fiction.  We also managed to find a book or two featuring gorillas for one young fan.

It was great to see how many Beavers were also members of the library, and many of them borrowed books to help with the final part of their badge, which is to read 6 books.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Our next book is Nicola Upson's 1930s Cambridge-set 'Nine Lessons' which is the 7th in her series of mysteries featuring real-life crime writer Josephine Tey (1896–1952). All are welcome, and we will provide a copy of the book.  We will be meeting in the library to discuss it on Tuesday 17th March at 3.30pm.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
